Windows Store Fails to Launch? Here’s How to Get it Fixed in Minutes!


Windows Store is an integral part of Windows operating system that provides access to thousands of free and premium apps. It is the primary means of distributing apps for Windows operating system platform. If Windows Store fails to launch, here’s how you can fix it.

Disable Development Mode

Use the following command-line to turn off the development mode:

  1. Press Windows Key + X, select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Enter the following command:
    • PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command “& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + ‘\AppxManifest.xml’ ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}”
  3. Press ENTER key to execute the command.
  4. After completing the procedure, please restart your computer.

Remove the Store Cache

Reset the Windows Store cache using the WSReset.exe tool or by manually deleting the files.

Using WSReset.exe If Windows Store Fails to Launch

  1. Open the Start Screen.
  2. Type WSReset.exe in the Search Box.
  3. Right-click WSReset.exe into the Search Results.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Your cache will now clear. A notification will appear that you can browse the Store for apps.

Manually Deleting Cache Contents:

  1. Double-click This PC icon on your Desktop.
  2. Click the View tab on the Ribbon interface.
  3. Check-up the box named Hidden items.
  4. Open the following directory:
    • C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages\ Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
  5. Delete all the contents of the LocalCache subfolder. Do NOT delete the folder itself.

Change Folder Ownership Settings

Folder security permissions determine access to individual folders, subfolders stored on your computer. Modify the security principles of your folder, allow adequate permissions to access the WindowsApps folder.

  1. Click the File Explorer icon on the Taskbar.
  2. Open the following directory:
    • C:\Program Files
  3. Right-click the WindowsApps subfolder, select Properties.
  4. It opens up a new dialog.
  5. Click the Security tab.
  6. Click Edit.
  7. In the subsequent box that opens, check-up Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, Read, Write check boxes under the Allow column.
  8. Click OK twice.

Set Correct Date and Time Zone

Your date and time, time zone settings may have been changed. You might want to set the exact date, time and timezone settings.

  1. Open the Settings app by clicking Start and then clicking Settings icon.
  2. Click the Time & Language icon in the Settings window.
  3. Click the Date & Time tab.
  4. Move the Set time automatically slider to the left. It will turn off that feature.
  5. Select the appropriate time zone from the Time Zone drop-down box.
  6. Click the Change button and then set appropriate date and time.
  7. After finishing up, exit the Settings window.

  1. Right-click This PC icon on Desktop.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click Advanced system settings.
  4. Click the System Protection tab in the newly open dialog box.
  5. Click System Restore to initiate the wizard.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
