Following errors are associated with Cortana:

  • Error Code 0x80070102: Cortana can’t listen right now
  • I’m afraid; I’m not available to help in your location
  • I’m sorry, but I can’t speak your language

Change Region & Language

Make the default system language to English (United States). Open Settings from the Start Menu.


Set the country/ region to the United States; and then set “English (United States)” as your default language.


Time & Language > Region & Language categories contain these settings.


Match Recognizer Language

Verify that the recognizer language matches the user interface language. Accordingly, you will have to change it.

Restart your Computer

Sometimes just restarting your operating system might work. A temporary glitch produces Cortana critical error.

Check Microphone

Check whether the microphone you’re currently using is working or not. It should be able to detect your voice, record audio.

Reinstall Microphone

Changes in microphone driver files or incomplete driver installation lead to Cortana critical error. All you’ve to do is use Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall microphone.


Execute Specified Command

Run Windows PowerShell as administrator and execute below command:

  • Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {AddAppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}


While executing above command, individual errors may pop up with red color. Simply ignore them and wait till the task is completed.


Create New User Profile

Delete your old user profile and any settings associated with it. You can do so by discontinuing the Microsoft Email ID used for the old profile. First, create a new profile from Settings > Accounts > Add a work or school account (Other accounts you use).


Enter log-in details of your another Microsoft Email ID to start with default settings and configurations.
