Override Scaling Mode

In computing, the override scaling mode enables new input to replace existing characters. Try activating this feature to fix Sea Of Thieves crashes.

    • C:\Program files\WindowsApps\*.*
  6. Save the changes.

Note: *.* represents All Files irrespective of their types

For Avast Antivirus

Open Avast Antivirus, click Menu on the top right and select Settings option.

  1. Click the General tab.
  2. Expand Exclusions.
  3. Under File Paths tab, type the following directory:
    • C:\Program files\WindowsApps\*.*
  4. Click Add, and then OK.

Switch To Full Screen

Some people reported that the game starts up and then crashes in the windowed mode. If you’re encountering problem playing the game in windowed mode, switch it to the full screen mode. If you’re facing problem with full screen, switch to the windowed mode.

  1. Press Windows Key + X, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Appearance and Personalization.
  3. Click Adjust Screen Resolution.
  4. Select a lower screen resolution, for example, 800*600.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Go back to the home of the Control Panel window.
  7. Click Intel Graphics and Media icon.
  8. Set the Scaling to Full Screen.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Now, change the original system resolution back to it’s previous value. (Refer Steps # 1-3)
  11. Click OK.

Restore Default Configurations

Resetting in-game options might help. Rename the configuration file located in the application data directory.

  1. Quit the game.
  2. Open the Run dialog box using Windows Key + R.
  3. Type AppData and click OK or hit ENTER.
  4. Open the following directory:
    • …\Packages\Microsoft.SeaofThieves_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Athena\Saved\Config
  5. Rename the UWP64 to UWP64_OLD
