Change Group Policy Editor Settings

Your computer may be using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) as your system administrator has disabled Windows Update server for servicing.

Local-Group-Policy-Editor

For Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista:

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
  2. Type “gpedit.msc” in the new dialog that opens click OK.
  3. It opens up the Local Group Policy Editor.
  4. Expand the following node:
  • Local Computer Policy | Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | All Settings
  1. Double click “Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair” in the right side panel.
  2. Select “Enabled” option.
  3. Click Apply, and then OK.
  4. Exit; and restart your computer.

Unblock Windows Update from Firewall

Your computer may have failed to access Windows Update website and servers, perhaps because of the Firewall program you use.

For Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8:

  1. Press Windows Key + X; select Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security | Windows Firewall.
  3. Click “Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall” link in the left panel.
  4. Click Change Settings button.
  5. It generates a list box. Click “Allow another app” button.
  6. It opens up a new dialog named “Add an App.”
  7. Click Browse button and insert the following file:
  • C:\Windows\System32\wusa.exe

  1. Click Start; select Control Panel in the Start Screen.

  3. Open that from Search Results.
  4. Click “Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.”
  5. Click Change Settings | Allow another program.

For Windows Vista:

  1. Click Start; select Control Panel.
  2. Click “Allow a program through Windows Firewall” link under “Security” category.

  6. Now you have the Add a Program dialog on your screen. Click Browse.
  7. Select following file:
  • C:\Windows\System32\wusa.exe
  1. Click OK | Apply | OK.

Change .NET Framework Source File

Select the operating system installation media as the default directory before enabling Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 program.

  1. Insert your Windows installation media in DVD Drive.
  2. Press Windows Key + X; select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. In the new window, type following command. Replace X:\ with the DVD drive letter.

  1. Press ENTER.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

  1. Insert operating system installation media.
  2. Click Start; type “Command Prompt” in Search Box.
  3. Right click it under Search Results; choose Run as administrator.

Add .NET Framework from Windows Features

While installing Microsoft .NET Framework using Windows Features dialog box, Windows will install a newer version automatically. If the computer is not connected to the Internet, it will copy contents from Windows installation disc. To fix error code 0x800F0906, please follow the steps given below:

Windows-Features

For Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8:

  1. Press Windows Key + X; select Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs | Turn Windows Features On or Off (Programs and Features).
  3. It opens up the Windows Features dialog box.
  4. Check-up the box labelled “.NET Framework 3.5 (including .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
  5. Click OK.
  6. The setup shall download a new version of Microsoft .NET Framework from the Internet. Meanwhile, refrain from using Internet-related applications to avoid interruption.

For Windows 7/ Vista:

  1. Click Start | Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs | Turn Windows Features On or Off.
  3. Refer Steps # 3-6 under Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8 user’s section.
