Rollback Driver Update

Ever since the release of Windows 10 operating system, there’s a lot of buzz among the techies on the Internet about the forced Windows Updates.

The Windows 10 operating system forcefully downloads and installs Windows Updates including device driver updates.

Though the forced Windows Update has its own merits as it keeps your computer running at an optimum performance with the latest security patches, you may sometimes run into a problem.

Critics allege and rightly so, the forced update increases the likelihood of computer malfunctioning in case a third-party driver manufacturer releases buggy or incompatible updates, or your computer abruptly shuts down because of a power failure during this process.

Fortunately, there is a way to determine if the latest driver update has caused the problem of Lenovo touchpad not working.

However, if your laptop does not beep or if it beeps randomly at irregular intervals, it may indicate a problem with one or more hardware devices.

The Ultimate Solution For Duplicate Files In The Web Cloud

Aren’t you weary of all the unwanted duplicate files accumulated within your cloud account? Aren’t you frustrated because of all the junk files that are wasting your cloud’s storage space? Don’t you want to get rid of all the cloned stuff that makes it difficult for you to find a particular file when needed urgently? Have you never wished for a web app to find duplicate files automatically? I bet everyone has been in that place at least once.

Computers & Technology

Sweep Clean The Flash Drive Duplicates

We all have been using removable storage media for a long, long time. Previously there used to be floppy drives, which were useful but they used to get corrupt very quickly. This led to the invention of the pen drive or the Flash Drive. These devices are extremely helpful in transferring large quantities of data from one computer to another one nearby. Also, in some scenarios where using the cloud isn’t a doable option to transfer data, the flash drive steps in and does the job with extreme safety and with a high degree of reliance.

Flash drives prove their worth every single day for students to submit their assignments and projects. Same can be said about professionals belonging to all walks of life, all thanks to this little gem known as a USB or a Flash Drive.

However, just like users run the risk of creating truckloads of data on their computer’s hard disk or even their cloud accounts, the consequences in the case of a Flash Drive are potentially of an even severe nature. This raises the stakes to an even greater level, with the user required to act quickly and put the house in order before data disorganization and the clutter simply explodes.

Let’s see what we’ve got to help you rid your Flash Drive of duplicates. We’ll start off with the basic and the easiest method which provides a decent degree of scan results. And then we will raise the result accuracy level as we switch to other methods. Here it goes then.

Use File Explorer

This is the old school search method which we’ve been employing to search for files or folders right from the first day when we started using a computer system. The method is simple enough for even a computer rookie to grasp right away. All it requires from the user is to open up This PC/ My Computer and now open the Flash Drive. Now, look out for the search box that is located right next to the address bar. You can easily enter in file extensions of the various file types found in your computer. The search results will appear momentarily and then it’s all about you manually checking any suspects and getting rid of all duplicates.

One important step you need to keep in mind with regards to this scan is to set up the view options the right way so that you can easily identify the duplicates. Here is how to do so:

1.Click the View tab and then click on Preview pane. (Helps preview images and identify duplicates visually).

Preview Pane

2. Next to the Preview pane button will be several options about how you will view the results. Select the Details option.

3. Now look for the Current view category, which is located right next to the Details option you just selected.

4. Click the Group by dropdown menu and select Name.

Group By

5. Click on Group by once again and select Ascending. This ensures all the results will be laid out in alphabetically ascending order.

Turn Off ReadyBoost

ReadyBoost is one handy feature not many people are aware of. It was rolled out with Windows Vista, and is intended to boost up the program load times for those apps which you use more frequently. This happens by using the system memory to load up apps rather than the hard disk. And if you’ve enabled ReadyBoost on your USB, it will be utilized for this purpose. But this feature also has a downside, which is the potential spawning of duplicates. Also, keep in mind that this feature only comes in handy if you’re loading up small apps. For all other apps, system memory is the way to go!

So here is how you can turn off ReadyBoost for your USB.

1.Open This PC and right-click the USB.

Desktop Icon

2. Select Properties in the context menu.

3. Open up the ReadyBoost tab and simply select Do not use this device.

4. Click OK to apply the changes.

Use a Duplicate Finder for Flash and Network Drives

This has got to be the biggest one. You need to use a dedicated software program that has been designed while keeping the job of removing duplicate data in mind. If this is the case, look no further than Clone Files Checker. This software performs a comprehensive scan for duplicate files on your USB (as well as the hard disk and even selected Cloud drives!), presents you with a report on the duplicates found and allows you to delete them securely. The best part about Clone Files Checker is that it dives deep into the content of every single file being scanned for duplicate data and then compares this content with the content of all the remaining files that are to be scanned. This means that file name or any other potential traps are simply ignored during the scan, and you get the highest degree of accuracy courtesy the brilliance of this software app.

And yes, at every stage, it has been ensured that the user isn’t overburdened with too many choices. Only a minimal amount of input is required from the user, yet they are in complete control and decide when and which action has to be performed.

That’s it. We hope this one will prove to be a really helpful one in helping you free up a handsome amount of space on your Flash Drive by getting rid of the duplicates.

Clear Browser Cache & Cookies

Whenever a user visits a website, it automatically stores tiny files, known as Cookies.

These files contain data in an unreadable form that makes it easier for the website to load the user’s preferences upon next visit.

Cache, on the other hand, is a snapshot of an entire web page that significantly improves the loading speed and performance.

There‘s a good chance that the copy of the web page stored on your computer as part of the web cache is corrupted and therefore, inaccessible.

The web cache and cookies get corrupted by any means, such as when the browser unexpectedly closes, your Internet connection drops during a cookie/ cache download, or a program installed on your machine corrupts the cache contents.

With that said, it is easier to get rid of these corrupt elements. Here’s how:

For Google Chrome

Flush DNS Cache

The word DNS is an acronym of the Domain Name System which is an equivalent of a phone book in computing that contains references to domain names and translates the same to IP Addresses.

When your computer shuts down because of various reasons such as a power failure, the DNS Caching process may interrupt and cause the cache contents to get corrupted.

You may want to flush the DNS contents using an elevated Command Prompt as we’ll see below:

For Windows 10

1.Type CMD in the Search Box on your Taskbar.

2. Right-click Command Prompt, select Run as Administrator.

3. In the resulting dialog, type ipconfig /flushdns and hit ENTER.

Flush DNS Command

That’s it. After successful completion, you should receive a message like this:

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache

For Windows 8.1/ 8

  1. Move your mouse cursor to the extreme bottom left corner of your screen. You should see a small Start Screen thumbnail, right-click it, and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Type the following command:
    • ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Press ENTER.

For Windows 7/ Vista/ XP

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Click All Programs, followed by Accessories.
  3. Choose Command Prompt from the list of available utilities.
  4. Type the following command and press ENTER:
    • ipconfig /flushdns

Disable Friendly HTTP Errors

Microsoft implemented the Friendly HTTP Errors feature to make it easier for non-tech savvy users to browse the Internet with little bothering about technical aspects such as error logs and debugging information.

The long, confusing error text and logs get shielded from the user and a nicely written, user-friendly text is displayed every time an error appears.

To get information useful for HTTP Error 500 diagnostic purpose, you’ll want to temporarily disable this feature and hard re-load your webpage in Internet Explorer.

For Windows 10/ 8.1/ 8/ 7/ Vista/ XP

1.Press Windows Key + R keys together, and type inetcpl.cpl

Run Dialog

2. Click OK or press ENTER.

3. Looking ahead, check for the Advanced tab in the newly opened Internet Properties dialog.

4. Un-check Show friendly HTTP error messages.

5. Click Apply, and then OK.

6. Fire-up Internet Explorer, and hard re-load your page using Ctrl + F5.

One way to fix WordPress HTTP Error 500 is to reset the browser settings to defaults.

I highly recommend backing up all your important stuff such as bookmarks and saved passwords.

For Google Chrome:

1.Click the Menu icon, select Settings.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Advanced.

3. Use the option Restore settings to their original defaults under Reset and Clean Up options.

HTTP Error 500 WordPress Solution For Developers & Server Administrators

If you‘re the website/ server administrator, I strongly recommend backing up the WordPress website before making further changes.

A slight misconfiguration or an incorrect move can shatter the entire website.

Restore Default .htaccess File

.htaccess is a configuration file that plays a significant role in your WordPress hosting. This file contains rules that govern various aspects of the website.

The .htaccess file has significant benefits:

  • Website Management: It determines the default home page and permalinks
  • Protects Your Website: It controls the behaviour of your website and protects it from external influence and attacks
  • Prevents Unauthorized Access: It denies access to certain Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses
  • Redirect Management: It directs website visitors from one page to another
  • Friendly Errors: It displays friendly error messages whenever a visitor tries to access a web page that no longer exists

That being said, there is always a chance to get this file corrupted.

Some of the reasons include:

  • A faulty and incompatible plug-in or theme can break the contents of the .htaccess file.
  • The file hasn‘t been properly configured by your web developer or server administrator.
  • The web developer loses the Internet connectivity while changes are being made to your website.

The good thing: It’s not that difficult to restore the default .htaccess file.

Here’s a little trick…

1.Sign in to your cPanel.

cPanel Log-In Screen

2. Check for the File Manager and launch it.

File Manager

3. At this point, when you‘re prompted to select a directory, check Show hidden files (dotfiles).

Show Hidden Files

4. Hit Go.

5. Next, locate your .htaccess file, typically in the public_html directory.

6. Right-click the .htaccess file and select Rename from the context menu options.

Rename Option

7. Specify the new name: .htaccess_backup

8. Now, sign in to your WordPress account and then head to the Settings tab on the left.

9. Go to Permalinks.

10. Be sure not to change any existing settings. All you have to do is click the Save Changes button to re-generate the default .htaccess file.

Save Changes

Disable Faulty Plugins

Plugins are an important part of WordPress website.

Plugins add additional functionality to your website and improve the visitor experience.

Often times, incompatible plugins cause HTTP error 500 WordPress. Disabling all plugins might work.

1.Log-in to your WordPress account, and head to the Plugins tab.

2. Check the top Plugin check box or select all plugins individually.

3. Click the Bulk Actions drop-down box and select Deactivate.

4. Click Apply.

Deactivate Plugins

That’s it, folks. I hope the error has now disappeared.

If yes, you may want to enable each plugin one by one and test the website for some time. The goal is to identify the faulty plugin that led to this issue.

Increase PHP Memory Limit

PHP is a widely used scripting language designed for web development and production.

When the server uses more than excessive memory specified in the php.ini or php5.ini file, it results in WordPress HTTP error 500.

Luckily, there is a way to increase the limit of PHP Memory.

1.Log-in to your cPanel, and go to the File Explorer.

2. Make sure that the Show Hidden Files box is checked.

3. Expand the following directories from the left-hand-side panel:

  • /home/public_html/wp-admin
Folder Contents

4. Check for php.ini or php5.ini files.

If you don‘t see either of them, create a new one. Click on the File icon.

New File

Type php.ini and hit Create New File.

Create New File Box

5. Enter the following text into the newly created php.ini

  • memory_limit = 256M

6. Click Save and re-load the webpage.

7. Looking ahead, if the problem keeps appearing, you’ll want to rename php.ini to php5.ini

Check File/ Folder Privileges

Sometimes, the error is caused when one or more important file or folder in the cPanel do not have required access permissions.

You may want to consult your developer to figure out those files/ folders and provide required privileges:

1.Go to the File Explorer, and right-click the file to change its attribute.

2. Select Change Permissions.

3. 755 is the most recommended permission level which makes the file readable and executable to the user, group and the world.

Change Folder Permissions

4. Change the file attributes depending on your requirements, and click Change Permissions.

What Is VPN? How Do I Get Best VPN For PC?

Wondering about best VPN for PC? This guide will help you compare aspects of different VPN services across the globe, and get the best out of it. Before we head to decide which is the recommended VPN service, let us first understand what is a VPN and why it is so important these days.

VPN – What Does It Mean?

A Virtual Private Network is a technology that creates a secured encrypted tunnel to pass your Internet traffic.

It diverts you through secured VPN servers based in different parts of the world.

A VPN allows you to access the Internet with an Internet Protocol (IP) Address you do not own. It replaces your real IP Address with that of the VPN server located somewhere in a remote part of the world.

For websites on the Internet, you appear to be a resident of a different country that hosts your VPN Server.

If you‘re an Indian citizen, you may appear as an American resident by selecting a US-based server.

You can change your digital location anytime by selecting a different server.

How VPN Works?

You may use VPN almost anywhere – from home, office, or during travel. It works pretty well on unsecured public Wi-Fis as well

Remember, in no way does your VPN replaces your Internet Service Provider. You must have an active Internet connection to use a VPN. VPN will not work without an Internet connection.

Now, a question may arise in your mind:

Do You Really Need A VPN For PC?

Of course, you do! Lemme elaborate why…

Reason # 1: Your Internet Service Provider Is Tracking Your Online Activity

With the advent of technology and online advertisements, privacy has become a serious concern.

Internet Service Providers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia have free reign to collect data from their thousands of Internet subscribers and make big profits selling it to the advertisers.

Major advertising, healthcare, insurance, travel, and investment companies compile a Digital Profile with your name that contains much more information about you than your close buddy knows.

These people, I like to call as Data Thieves, have access to the list of web pages you visited, your online activity, your searches in Google, your interests, things you like the most, your shopping activity, and much more.

It won‘t be an exaggeration to say they know many of the life secrets you never shared with anyone before or ever want to.

Unfortunately, many people underestimate the need to protect their privacy online and think things like these are not worth their time.

If you‘re wondering why you‘re always bombarded with targeted promotional ads, emails, text messages, I hope you‘ve got your answer.

VPN Stops ISP Tracking

By using a VPN, you prevent your Internet Service Provider from seeing your information.

When you connect to a remote server through a VPN software, your Internet Service Provider cannot log your browsing activity.

Your Google queries, the websites you open, the files you download, and other Internet data remain completely hidden from the clutches of ISP.

Reason # 2: VPN Protects Your Data From Hackers

Another major benefit is that VPN protects you from hackers on public Wi-Fis.

While the free Wi-Fi services on railway stations, airports and coffee shops are very much convenient for travelers, they are vulnerable to hackers sniffing out personal and confidential information.

Secure Wi-Fi with VPN

The attackers may intercept and take control over your network traffic with right tools, and steal confidential information such as your websites log-in credentials, banking, and credit card information.

The hackers can read data transmitted to non-encrypted (non-HTTPS) websites.

We strongly recommended not to make banking transactions on public Wi-Fis unless you‘re using a good VPN.

Reason 3: Unblock State Censored Websites

VPNs are not just about Internet privacy and security. There are several other add-on benefits.

Internet Censorship is one of the common problems in many countries.

While most democratic countries have moderate censorship, there are others who ban access to websites critical of Government policies and suppress information to the latest events, protests, debates and political developments.

VPN allows you to unblock websites censored by State government authorities and regulators by connecting to servers based in countries that allow unrestricted access to those websites.

Reason 4: Get Unrestricted Access To Services Not Available In Your Country

Unblock hundreds of American sites and watch your favorite TV shows on Netflix from any part of the world. Enjoy long hours of non-stop HD streaming experience.

In a nutshell, using VPNs have much more benefits than not using them.
